Antecedentes
Este grupo de personas interesado en establecer relaciones pacíficas y duraderas con los habitantes de las Islas Malvinas / Falklands, ha tenido varias etapas evolutivas en los muchos años que lleva de vida institucional.
El primer intento epistolar hacia los isleños, redactado por un grupo de rosarinos, se produjo exactamente en 1982, tres días antes de desencadenarse la gran tragedia. Nunca hubo constancia de que dicha carta llegara a su destino, el Canal de Televisión que se había instalado en las Islas.
Ese mismo año, un ilustre visitante, el Papa Juan Pablo II llegó a nuestro País y dejó flotando una profunda frase que decía
“Hagamos una cadena más fuerte que el odio y que la muerte”
Evidentemente, se refería a la Amistad pero tal cosa, en ese momento, era una utopía. “Nadie ama lo que no conoce”. Siempre nos han hablado de Las Islas pero poco y nada de lo más importante, “Los Isleños”.
Habiendo vuelto la tranquilidad y con ayuda de las nuevas tecnologías se repite el intento. Un Fax, dirigido al periódico isleño Penguin News, es enviado desde la casa de uno de los fundadores en Newman, Benavidez, Provincia de Buenos Aires. Era un 24 de Abril de 1998, hace ya 13 años, logrando una valiosa respuesta. En esa época el Fax era ya una herramienta muy difundida.
En el año 2000 se replanteada la idea pero como un Hobby a nivel escolar para obtener nuevas amistades y practicar con ellas el idioma ingles. Entonces la propuesta se denominaba "Contactos de Buena Vecindad" y los intentos se hacen por correo electrónico y con los alumnos del Colegio San Patricio. A mediados de ese año 32 e-mails se envían a la Escuela Comunitaria de las Islas.
Con el fin de buscar explicaciones, pues las respuestas no llegaban, se contactan a importantes habitantes del lugar. El buen éxito obtenido así hizo que el proyecto elevara su objetivo. Se continúa fomentando el intercambio epistolar pero ahora entre los adultos. Aquí se le cambia el nombre por el de "Club de Amigos Malvinas / Falklands".
Unos años después, al enterarse Mons. Michel McPartland, el Superior católico de las Islas, de que estos alumnos finalizaban sus estudios decidió enviarle él, personalmente unas palabras. ( Ver su texto en otra página )
El pasado 10 de Setiembre de 2008, y por Resolución Nº 218 / 08, la Secretaría de Cultura y Educación de la Municipalidad de Rosario le otorga el “Auspicio Institucional” al mencionado “Club de Amigos” especialmente – decía la Resolución - “para proponer el acercamiento en actividades culturales, deportivas o comerciales” Actualmente también se busca acercar a dos instituciones que tengan similares actividades, una del Continente y otra de las Islas.
El antecedente de mayor trascendencia ocurrió el día 14 de Mayo de 2011. En el Salón de Actos del Colegio de Abogados de Rosario, y ante los profesionales correspondientes, 31 miembros integrantes firmaron el Acta de Compromiso para transformar este grupo virtual en una Asociación Civil con Personería Jurídica.

Background
This group of people interested in establishing peaceful and lasting relationships with the inhabitants of the Falklands / Malvinas, has had several evolutionary stages in the many years of its institutional life
The first attempt towards writing letters to the islands was made by a group from Rosario in 1982, three days before the outbreak of the great tragedy. We never found out if the letter had reached its destination: the TV channel recently settled on the islands. That same year, a distinguished visitor, Pope John Paul II, came to our country and left a deep thought when he stated:
"Let's make a chain stronger than hatred and death"
Obviously, it related to friendship but such a thing was utopic, then. Nobody loves anything he does not know. We have always talked about the islands but never about the more important factor: the Islanders.
Calmness regained , and with the help of new technologies, the attempt was repeated. A fax, sent to the island newspaper “Penguin News” is sent from the home of one of the founders in Newman, Benavidez, Buenos Aires. It was April 24, 1998, 13 years ago, this time receiving a valuable response.
In 2000, the idea was rethought as a hobby to be carried out at school level to make new friends and practise English at the same time. Then the proposal was called "Good Neighbor Contacts" and attempts were made by email and by the students of St Patrick School, Rosario. By mid-year 32 e-mails were sent to the Community School on the islands.
In order to find explanations why we received no answers, we contacted major locals. The success was such that the project target was raised. The exchange of letters was promoted but this time between adults. And then the name of the project was changed to “Falklands / Malvinas Friends’ Club”.
A few years later, when Bishop Michael Mc Partland, the island´s most prominent Catholic authority, heard that these students finished their studies, he decided to send them his personal support.( See words in other page )
On 10 September 2008, and by Resolution 218/ 08, the Ministry of Culture and Education of the Municipality of Rosario awarded the” Institutional Auspices” to the aforementioned “Friends’ Club” in particular – said the resolution -“to propose approach in cultural activities , sports or business.” It now also seeks to bring together two institutions with similar activities one from the continent and one from the islands.
An event of major importance occurred on May 14, 2011. In the Hall of the Bar of Lawyers in Rosario city and in the presence of the professionals concerned, 31 members signed the Deed of Commitment to transform this virtual group in a Civil Association with legal personality.
